The Gator Gears (Team 4973) is a FIRST Robotics Team from Gateway High School based in San Francisco, California.
Team 4973 hopes to immerse youth in modern day technology and help them apply classroom learning skills into the real world. Members of Team 4973 will not only learn technical, mechanical and business building aptitude, but this program will reinforce their creativity and collaborative skills as well.

About FIRST
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to give students hands on opportunities in the fields of science and technology. Each year FIRST Robotics prepares a complicated challenge and gives teams six weeks to meet the season’s engineering challenge. Working with mentors, students push themselves to create a robot that meets the criteria. Teams then meet to participate in regional competitions that will challenge the team's robot design and problem solving skills as well as their teamwork skills.
