F.A.Q
Q: What is the Gateway Robotics Team?
A: Gator Gears (Team 4973) is the FIRST robotics team of Gateway High School in San Francisco, California. Team 4973 hopes to immerse youth in modern day technology and help them apply classroom learning skills into the real world. Members of Team 4973 not only learn how to build a robot, but doing so will also reinforce collaborative and social skills as well.
Q: What do you do on the team?
A: There are many jobs available once you join the team. They all work together to accomplish our goal of building an awesome robot. You can find a list of our departments and roles here.
Q: What can I get out of this club?
A: Gator Gears gives students a chance to be creative, critical thinkers and learn how to build a robot that will compete in a course against other robots. Throughout the year, our members will be learning different skills such as professional engineering, and CAD. We will apply the skills we learned to build our own robot, all while having a fun time.
Q: What is the criteria I need to meet in order to join?
A: This club is not a selective club. Anyone who wants to join may join. The only thing we ask of our potential members is that they are cooperative with their peers, willing to do their share of the work, and willing to dedicate themselves outside of school to build a robot.
Q: Where and when does the club meet?
A: Gator Gears meets regularly at Gateway High School in the Impact Lab.
On off season, the team meets on Mondays at lunch.
During build season, we meet:
Monday: During lunch and 3:45 PM - 6:45 PM
Tuesday: 3:45 PM - 6:45 PM
Wednesday: 3:45 PM - 6:45 PM
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
